The location and the whole resort grounds were beautiful. It had a very relaxing and peaceful vibe. The 'infinity' pool was fantastic and the deluxe studio rooms were extremely spacious, comfortable and very tastefully decorated.

The only disappointing, and frustrating, thing was that It was not a quiet and peaceful start to each day. Our room backed onto the village where there were ducks and roosters, so unfortunately we were woken every morning around 4.30am to the ducks quacking and the roosters. At times it sounded like they were in our room! This continued till we finally got up around 8.30am. The resort was full so we were unable to change rooms. We were told by the owner that it wouldn't make a difference anyway and that all of Bali is noisy in the mornings.

Friendly staff; beautiful grounds; personal touches--E.G. Incense delivered to one's patio each evening; fresh flower blossoms placed on bed and other places throughout the suite.

We enjoyed everything about Tanah Merah. Peter Bloch is an incredible host. The entire staff is very nice and always ready to assist on anything needed. The view of the valley is amazing. The location around the village... The rice fields.... And also the beauty of the facilities. We really miss Tanah Merah and can't wait to be back!

    Tanah Merah is fantastic!

The infinity pool was hte clincher for us! We didn't want to go to ubud without an infinifty pool and a view over the valley. The room happened to be lovely as well. Really large size, oh and the biggest and best bathtub i've ever been in. Copper bath tub, was so deep and great fun for all the family! Staff we very friendly and looked after us well. Its great cos there are only 12 rooms so the place is really chilled out and quiet - exactly what we were looking for.

They should get a dvd collection that guests can watch. We had a baby so didn't leave the room at night, would've been good to have been able to watch some movies or something. And maybe a place ot borrow books from too.

Located nicely out of the way, but not too far from Ubud. We found the Tanah Merah (Red Grass I think?) Resort greatly to our liking. We stayed in a cottage overlooking the pool. It is really different. Nothing like a hotel room. It is a lot of fun, romantic and really something to choose if you are looking for something a little out of the ordinary. Being in Rural Bali you need to expect to hear some pretty serious rural noises from sun up.. Roosters and Chickens and Pigs and all manner of other things. Surprisingly enough, you get used to it pretty quicky and it all becomes a part of the feel of the whole thing. A couple of large Bintangs before bed helps too. The cottage was serviced several times over the day and the mini-bar is refilled many times over the day so it always seems full. Breakfast is lovely and the in house laundry service is prompt and your clothes come back ok. There is wifi but you should invest $30.00 in a wifi amp/7-9db aerial before your come as the signal strength is low in the cabin. We stayed in July and it was cool at night and aircon was not needed at all. A local driver service costs about $5 AU to get to or from Ubud Get them to take you to the Warung Mina Restaurant. The prices are sensible and the food is tops. The hotels restaurant is nice too. The demeanour of the staff is warm and welcoming. The owner is often on-site and is very welcoming approachable. He has written a lovely book which is worth buying.

No Complaints, just some advice..., When you book ensure there are no Festivals due at the local temple if you want to enjoy the most from your Cottage/Timor room. Not all things that happen in these festivals are nice to listen to, especially at sunrise. The festivals would have no effect on the airconditioned rooms though, just the cottages

The veiws and surrounding areas are really spectacular. It is the perfect place to go to relax. I would strongly recommend going for a swim in the nearby river. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, offering an 'on demand' lift service to the centre of Ubud. I would recommend this hotel to everyone.

The hotel restaurant was poorly stocked.

Tanah Merah is a hidden gem in Ubud, it's the place where you can truly experience authentic Balinese flavor- you drive pass local villages, forests and rivers. Resort lets you immerse in peace and tranquility with awesome view of sun rise and nearby nature walk. Villa is simple but cozy. And the staff are very friendly and warm. Food ooze home-cook wholesomeness and makes the stay value for money. Tanah merah will make u fall in love with Ubud!

The plus of this hotel is the view and the quiet area (also not so quiet at night and early morning, but hello Nature ;) it's really a beautiful hotel

Taking the stairs to get to the bathroom.. The bedroom is not well though and what really made me sad are the poor birds in their little cage. If that's meant to be pretty, I think it's just cruel and I have heard other clients saying the same things..

Staff are very helpful and friendly.

It's not somewhere my friend or I would go again but that is just personal opinion.

Outstanding resort. Nice pools, beautiful surroundings. Nice set breakfast in a gorgeous restaurant overlooking the forest. Free internet in the room. Tastefully decorated rooms. Wonderfully friendly staff. Thanks for making it a good stay.

Annoying loud temple sounds every morning and lasts several hours. Loud sounds of farms (chicken) every morning, as early as 3 am. If you are a light sleeper, this could be a real concern. Be aware that this resort is a few miles away from Ubud center. There are no restaurants or services around the resort area, as it is located in a village. If you are hungry late in the night (after 1030pm which is the last order for the resort restaurant), you don't have any options at all.

My husband and I enjoyed the location and the scenery of Tanah Merah. The staff were very friendly and helpful and in true Balinese style, always smiling. And of course, Peter Bloch's such an interesting man and his Gallery and the way he has displayed all of it is a real credit to him and his willingness to share it all with his guests. I will tell my friends about the Resort and would have no hesitation in staying again.

We stayed in the Timor Hut and found that the furnishing were a little too shabby, I.E. worn, torn and stained cushions and in a real need of an update and refurbishing which took away from the charm of the location a little for us. The gardens, although beautiful, lacked the finishing touches in maintenance, E.G. trimming the grass around ornaments and pruning of dead branches off the trees etc.

Very relaxing and quiet location. The owner and staff at the hotel were very pleasnt and accomidating. Room was spacious and décor was very authentic. A couple downfalls were with the water system in the shower, it didn't heat up fast if at all sometimes and no pressure. When your out all day playing around it's definetly nice to come back to a nice hot shower. But things like that can be fixed, but the hospitality that was shown is from years of experience.

A stunning peaceful hilltop location, spread out and linked by landscaped walkways and steps. Loved the infinity edge pool overlooking valley. Staff were outstanding - from the genial, ever- available owner, to the 2 'boys' who patiently helped 2 'oldies' swim upstream to a secluded waterfall! Museum/gallery houses extraordinary and rare Asian exotica. Highly atmospheric and quirky place, a refuge from the noise and bustle of Ubud. Everything designed with imagination. Very hard to leave!

You need to be aware of the number of steps and inclines involved in getting to different parts of the resort. Note also that accommodation is based on authentic traditional designs and artifacts rather than shiny mod cons - the interior of our Timorese cottage was dark and rather small - and yet very atmospheric.

Everything, was magical, we stayed 2 nights and didn't leave our Villa.

We didn't think it was the place for young children.
